Communicating to others...
GRADE: I will earn an "A" for completing this project
Project Proposal #2
ETEC 623 Project Proposal Format
Your Name: DOROTHY OLIVER-SCOTT
Project Title: Letter to Stakeholders (White Paper)
Project Focus: COMMUNICATING ABOUT EFFECTIVE TECHNOLGY USE (Focus 2)
Project Description:
Letter to Principal, explaining the need for the staff development training. The letter (White Paper) is to ask for the training time, date, location, equipment, training of myself and two others and how it will benefit teachers. The letter will explain the importance of teachers using the computers not only to record grades and write assignments but for teachers to understand and be able to use technology as a learning tool. I chose this project because too often training in technology is not presented in an environment where they can use what they are learning on the spot. Communication to stakeholders are not always presented where the administrators and others know what is to be taught, who will teach it, where the location will be and what the purpose is. Communication has to begin at the work site up not the other way.
Project Artifacts:
1. Draft of the letter (White Paper).
2. Letter to all staff asking for volunteers to facilitatate the training.
3. Flyer to all teachers several months in advance of the training as to what
they can look forward to.
4. Computer generated invitation to each participant.
5. Final letter (White Paper) will be developed as a Power Point presentation.
Project Timeline:
January 29th start developing an outline of what needs to be done. February 22, Draft Letter (White Paper). Complete by March 15, 2007.
A question was asked how do you communicate and get others (older as oppossed to tenured) to "buy-in" to utilizing technology in their classrooms? The answer is to present the new technology with pedagogy of their interest. For instance you have a presentation to make with math and life science teachers, create a power point that incorporates information from both areas. In a casual conversation ask them what they find easy and difficult to get students to learn. Write a power point with solutions if you have any on making the easy fun and the difficult interesting enough to maintain the interest of their students. This may take additional work on your part as the facilitator, but in the long run the steps you take now will lessen the ones you will take if you present a power point on something like "We must use technology in the classroom". Give the presentation in a computer classroom where you will be able to take the teacher(s) through the steps of creating a power point. Provide the benefit of using technology for instance their work is never lost; corrections can be made easily; mulititude of templates to choose from; they can create their own design; information can be retrieved in an instant, etc.
#2
As a leader/administrator I will develop a training seminar for the implementation of a new computer educational program. After attending a workshop on the program I will obtain all information on the necessities to get the program implemented from the training of employees to implementation in the classroom.
#3
The training seminar will be to communicate to others how technology learning and implementation in a classroom or during learning can and should be fun. I am enjoying the BLOG so much that it will be the focus/activity at the seminar
